47 Degrees, Part of Xebia, is a global consulting firm specialising in functional programming and safe software systems. We’re always looking for talented individuals to lead and nurture projects involving Scala, Kotlin, and other engineering and big data technologies.
47 Degrees promotes and participates in diverse community projects, including popular open-source libraries, training events through our Academy, and D&I initiatives. Additionally, we build reliable and safe systems for our clients. We want to advance the standard in the industry by leveraging better testing and verification tools. We've been doing so for a while, with our involvement with the Scala Center and open-source projects like Arrow and Arrow Analysis.
We routinely develop concurrent systems involving microservices, message queues, and other components. In many cases, those are vital to our client, so we want to formalize those core parts and verify they work under various conditions.
The Role
This role is part of the bootstrapping effort around formal methods in Xebia Functional. As such, the role involves a wide range of tasks, including:
- Developing tools to apply formal methods and techniques to the technologies we routinely use, including Scala, Kotlin, and Kafka,
- Educating and promoting formal methods both internally – within our engineering team – and externally – creating courses and participating in conferences,
- Support our sales team in describing and finding opportunities to apply formal methods in new or existing clients.
Requirements
- Be a nice person and a team player.
- Proven ability to work independently and effectively in a distributed team.
- Experience in formal methods across a variety of technologies:
- Modeling of concurrent systems, like Alloy or TLA+,
- "Practical" proof assistants and strong type systems, like F*,
- Developer tools, like compilers and compiler plug-ins.
- Be fluent with the use of functional languages.
- A desire to continually expand and refine your technical knowledge.
- Experience working in an agile development environment.
- Excellent command of oral and written English.
- Experience working with VCS like Git.
